Took off work a little early today, came home, took the top off the Jeep-wannabe and took the kids riding...did a few errands, rode around aimlessly...cranked the radio and just had fun for a while.
Felt so good to 'escape' for a little bit. And the kids didn't fight. Well, not too much anyway.
Now, it's back to reality - homework, dinner, dishes, laundry, bath and bedtime await me in the next two hours. Yay. *rolls eyes*
My Place
my time...my ramblings...my place to hide from the rest of the world and let me be me.

*sigh*
Again.
DH is heading to Louisiana....this time on the 2nd run, instead of the first. Instead of the hurry up and wait for the hurricane, he'll be on the 'clean up' run. Three years ago..... we were live from New Orleans....and there are others after that, if you really want to read.
God, Mayor Nagin, and Anderson Cooper, please bless those folks who decided to stay, those who decided to leave and the Children's Hospital that is going to run business-as-usual through Gustav.
Did I ever tell you the significance of that picture up there? Yeah, the one I put at the top of the page a couple weeks ago when I redid this blog. That was a shot from the New Orleans coastline right before Katrina hit. Freaky and slightly skeery, huh?

The end of summer
Yesterday marked the unofficial end of summer in our house as the kids went back to school. Neither were too thrilled about this, but off they went. And by the time they got home, both had had pretty good days at school. I'm so proud of them, and so very melancholy at the same time. Both are growing up faster than I care to think about.
I still tend to look at Rotten1 as a young child, immature and irresponsible. And he's not. He's becoming a young man who is much more responsible and thoughtful than I usually give him credit for. He's my baby, without a doubt. And I have to learn to stop treating him like he's 5. I just don't want to admit that my baby is 10 and in fifth grade. As for Rotten2...*sigh* She, too, is growing up. She's still not very responsible....at least, not when I'm around. Probably because I still do way too much for her. And for her brother. But away from me, she's a young lady who normally remembers her manners and doesn't act like her brother is the scum of the earth. Much of the same can be said for Rotten1.
They grow up so fast. So very freaking fast. And I'm so proud of how wonderful they both are. I just don't want to admit that they are on their way to becoming independant, thinking, knowledgable, respectful people.
My babies. No matter how old they are.

Changes
Time to make some changes to the ol' blog.......so if stuff goes missing or new stuff appears, don't be alarmed.

And now...it's DH's turn
He couldn't stand it anymore. His ginormous F-250 gas guzzler was killing him. And, it having transmission issues wasn't helping it's case to stay around much. So last night, I took off work early and we picked up DH's 'new' car.
1988 Mustang 5.0 GT Convertible.
White with red interior
Looks something like this........(it's a googled image. I'll take a pic of the car in our driveway soon. And no, I still haven't taken a pic of my Tracker from last month either). His is not in nearly as perfect shape as this, but....

My new toy
So DH and I were talking yesterday, and I'm thinking seriously about getting out from under the car payment monster. I'm tired of payments and tired of making them and tired of never seeming to get anywhere. So I'm probably going to put the car up for sale in the very near future. And during the course of the conversation, he mentions this little SUV that a friend has had sitting in the barn for over a year. Last he knew, it was running good, just really really nasty from sitting in the barn.
After lunch, we went over there. And $400 later, I'm the proud owner of a new-to-me SUV. I wish I'd taken pictures before....the layer of dirt and funk on it were impressive. The amount of leaves inside had to be a good 3" thick.
It needs a new top, seat covers, several scrubbings and a few other minor things. And new tires. And the decals on the side have got to come off.
I'll take a picture of mine tonight, this......is as close as google could find for me:

Sample Weekend
Now I know where this year has gone. Take this weekend, as an example. Thankfully, baseball and softball seasons are over with for the summer, otherwise, it would have been even crazier.
Friday AM 6:10 - DH calls from work. He's going to be late. Some fucking asswipe broke into his car, his partner's truck, the lady next door's car and various other vehicles up and down the street at the ambulance station. His window is gone, the dash is torn up, the tachometer is in pieces...but that seems to be the extent of his damage. His partner's truck window is gone, stereo, speakers, etc are all gone. Neighbor's trunk is open, stuff scattered down her driveway, window gone, and stereo gone. Similar damage to all other vehicles. And his partner's truck has blood all down the door. (excuse me while I chuckle over this. again.)
Friday AM 8:00 - DH finally makes it home. He's beyond pissed off. Not only was this the 65 Ford Ranchero (aka his baby) that he's been restoring and retro-mod-ing, windows are hard to find. And the dash plastic and chrome is nearly impossible to find. And very expensive (roughly $1K for three pieces). *sigh* And of course, because he doesn't drive it very often, we don't have comprehensive coverage on it. Shit. I go to work.
Friday PM 4:20 - DH calls, for about the 5th time. I'm hoping it's good news. He's finally located a window. And it's cheap!!!! Much less than the $200 we were looking at for a custom piece of glass to be cut and fit. Except it's over on the complete opposite side of Dallas. 100 miles away. And, his F250 won't make it over there...it's going in the shop in the next week or so to have the transmission repaired.
Saturday AM 8:30 - Meet up with Rotten2's softball team and bum a ride from her BFF's mom to the water park. DH takes my car (the only reliable transportation with all windows) to the other end of the world.
Saturday PM 5:30 - Rottens, Rotten2's friend, her mom and I finally leave the waterpark sunburned a bit, exhausted and water logged. Call DH to discover he's been home, the window is in his car, and life is good.
Saturday PM 6:15 - We finally get home and Rotten2 scams me.....her BFF is granted permission to spend the night.
Saturday PM 11:00 - All kids finally in bed and asleep.
Sunday AM 9:00 - All kids are awake, DH is at work, and I'm cleaning house.
Sunday PM 1:00 - Drop Rotten1 at his friend's house, meet up with Rotten2's friend's mom to drop her off, go grocery shopping and head home
Sunday PM 2:15 - Rotten1 and friend appear at the house to play. I continue cleaning and scrubbing and steam cleaning.
Sunday PM 5:00 - Rotten1's friend heads home, kids and I wash my car, eat dinner and go swimming. Ice cream for dessert.
Sunday PM 9:00 - Rotten2 crashes out on the couch watching the Disney Channel.
Sunday PM 10:00 - Rotten1 crashes out on the floor watching the Disney Channel.
Sunday PM 11:00 - Sparkling clean house, dog bathed, me showered, and finally I go to bed.
Monday AM 5:45 - Up and at 'em for another exciting week of work. Blah.
Welcome to Summer at my house!!! I'm so glad baseball is over...otherwise there would have been 2-3 practices and one game mixed in that craziness. And of course, DH's car break in wasn't a 'normal' event, just one more of those things that tend to happen just when things are way too busy or you are way too stressed.
